Every member of our family, including J.’s sister, Heather, has owned and ridden motorcycles. Her first bike was a Honda Nighthawk. J.’s first motorcycle was a Honda Rebel. It is hard to believe his mother almost stroked out when she finally discovered he had that bike, considering the almost 100,000 miles she has already put on her own bikes since then.
After serving four years in the U.S. Navy, J.'s discharge came in ’97. Two days after he had been home from living overseas in Japan, we headed out on a great Father and Son trip. Our destination was the hill country of Texas, but we ended up down around the Big Bend National Park and the Mexican border towns. After that 4,000 miles trip, I had him back in shape for riding marathons again. We completed our last 1,000 miles in less than 24 hours.
